Species Introduction
The cottonwood, also known as Populus deltoides, is a large deciduous tree native to the wetlands of southwestern North America. It is commonly found along lake shores, riverbanks, and irrigation channels. Mature trees can reach heights of 40 to 100 feet (12 to 30 meters) with trunk diameters up to 1.8 meters. The crown of the tree can span between 18 to 30 meters in width.
