Species Introduction
Merbau is kiln-dried imported wood, directly kiln-dried and planed. The moisture content is controlled within 12-15%, ensuring high product stability. After planing, the surface has a smooth texture.
Production Areas and Distribution
Merbau is distributed in the South Pacific and Southeast Asia regions. The longitudinal section contains some golden-yellow deposits. With a specific gravity of 0.7-0.9, it has a hard texture. After planing, the surface is glossy. It is difficult to inject preservatives into it. Due to the different growth areas and climatic conditions, the color ranges from dark brown to light yellow-brown, which is normal. The color difference in Merbau can be improved by applying wood protective paint, and it will become more uniform after a period of oxidation.
Applications
Merbau is commonly used for indoor and outdoor flooring. It has a corrosive effect on ordinary iron, so it is best to use stainless steel. Due to its natural structural characteristics, when it comes into contact with water, it may release a red sap from the inside, causing staining on the contact surface. It is recommended to avoid using it on light-colored terrazzo or marble countertops.
